How Cannabis Business Operates in D.C. Today?

In the District of Columbia, you can legally consume marijuana but not buy it. You can buy medicinal marijuana, but you won't be able to buy recreational marijuana. This peculiar predicament stems from D.C.'s unusual legal status as a creation of the United States Constitution.

It's been almost four years since voters in Washington, D.C. approved Initiative 71, which allows anyone over the age of 21 to possess up to two ounces of marijuana. Residents of the district are allowed to consume and cultivate marijuana on their own land, as well as exchange cannabis as long as no money, commodities, or services are transferred.

The nation's capital now boasts a thriving market of cannabis entrepreneurs who negotiate a distinct ecology, unlike any other legal marijuana industry. Tourists, merchants, companies, and government personnel, on the other hand, may find that same market challenging. In this post, you'll discover how cannabis companies function in Washington, D.C. today.

Cannabis Businesses in D.C.

You can open a medicinal marijuana dispensary even if you can't build a retail store. You can, however, give or donate cannabis to someone if you don't get anything in return, such as money, products, or services. Shirts and other things have been sold in the District, with a "gift" of marijuana included in the transaction.

There are no shops in the area. Sales are held at certain locations. While giving marijuana to someone is lawful, selling other goods to fulfill that present might rapidly run afoul of the law.

Medical Cannabis Dispensaries in D.C.

The mayor requires most medicinal marijuana retailers to be registered. Furthermore, the DC health office oversees the authorization and licensing of medicinal marijuana, and only five shops are authorized inside the District.

If you're a cannabis business owner in the state, you must fulfill the state's basic qualifying criteria, which include having good character, being over 21, not having any felony convictions, and not being a physician, as outlined in 22 DCMR C section 5400.1.

Furthermore, there is a fee to apply for a legitimate medicinal cannabis company in DC. Application and permission costs are necessary, but there are extra payments for workers, managers, and business contacts. The yearly price for medicinal cannabis shops is $10,000, which includes a $5,000 application fee, a $200 annual fee for corporate partners, a $75 annual fee for workers, and a $150 annual fee for a manager's license.

As a cannabis company owner, you must additionally pay a stated transportation charge of roughly $25 for moving medicinal marijuana from the production facility to the distribution facilities. If you believe the difficulties facing cannabis companies in D.C. end there, you're mistaken.

The entire application procedure for a medical marijuana store may be difficult. The District of Columbia employs a point system to choose which licenses to grant. In their applications, applicants must address specific criteria, and points are awarded for each area covered.

How to Get Cannabis in D.C.

#1. Delivery

Your "gift" will be delivered to a place of your preference by delivery companies. The usual delivery time, in my experience, is between 1 and 2 hours, so be sure you'll be in one location for at least two hours if you choose delivery, or arrange an appointment the day before. They also can't deliver on government property.

#2. Pick Up

You can pick up your "gift" and meet the brand in a private interior place, such as a hotel room or flat, and it usually necessitates an appointment. Otherwise, it'll be similar to shopping in a store because you'll have the opportunity to ask questions and go over their variety of cannabis presents before deciding what you want.

It should be possible to obtain an appointment 1-2 hours ahead of time, but scheduling a schedule the day before is a smart idea, especially if you're short on time. During the continuing epidemic, most of them have been switched to Curbside Pick-Up.

#3. Meet Up

Meet-ups are similar to deliveries, except that the brand specifies the place, which is generally in front of a coffee shop. This is ideal for tourists who are inexperienced with the city, but you could also just ask a frequent Delivery brand to recommend a meeting location.

Most people will comply with such a request. Many entrepreneurs have lumped them in with Delivery since they provide the same functions. Facebook and other social media platforms are popular with companies.

Other Interesting Facts About Cannabis Dispensaries in D.C.

#1. Pop-Up Shops

According to data from the DC Police Department, the number of possession arrests has decreased significantly, from almost 1,500 in 2014 to only 16 in 2016. However, from a low of 99 in 2014, the number of public consumption arrests has risen to an average of 274 each year over the previous two years.

Marijuana users may be put in considerably more danger if they use it on federal territory, which accounts for 29 percent of DC's total landmass. Because the community has regularly voiced dissatisfaction with the quantity of public consumption, police feel they are compelled to intervene.

Meanwhile, authorities have raided pop-up gatherings, including one in June that resulted in the arrest of 30 persons and the seizure of almost $10,000 in marijuana. The raids are directed at users and sellers who are attempting to avoid the gray area of giving.

Since it is still prohibited, pubs and restaurants might face hefty fines or even closure if I-71 infractions occur on their premises, many companies are hesitant to organize parties or allow marijuana usage in their establishments.

Most companies, credit unions, and financial organizations will not accept "marijuana money" for fear of federal penalties or money laundering claims. As a result, merchants are forced to deal exclusively in cash, placing them at a higher risk of theft.

#2. Thriving Green Market

With over 300 marijuana-related companies, DC is the most robust pot market on the East Coast. Many larger firms, though, are keeping away due to marijuana's quasi-legal position in the area.

According to a 2014 assessment by District authorities, the city's cannabis market may be valued at up to $130 million per year, generating up to $20 million in income for the city. This is a small portion of the anticipated expansion of the total national sector, which, according to some projections, may reach $20 billion by 2022.

#3. The Problem of Synthetic Cannabis

While this synthetic marijuana drug known as "K2" is not a new issue in the region, its use and overdose instances have skyrocketed. The effects of K2 are similar to those of marijuana, although they are significantly greater. K2 is widely purchased at dealerships and corner stores, adding to the problem, and it has become a public health risk in places such as New York.

Thousands of medical calls for alleged K2 poisoning have been received in DC as a result of this situation. Officials, merchants, and citizens are uncertain how the K2 pandemic will influence the city's legal marijuana future, but the outbreak is hampering attempts to completely legalize marijuana usage.

#4. Women in the Cannabis Industry

Many of the merchants at these events in D.C. are owned by people of color, women, and veterans. This provides opportunities for some of Washington's most overlooked groups to work in high-paying occupations ranging from farmers to merchants, consultants, and delivery network operators.

The DC Council approved a bill in 2017 that gave minorities preferential treatment when it came to working at dispensaries and growers in the city. Despite efforts to provide minority cannabis businesses preferential treatment, many still suffer stigma: 86% jailed for cannabis are black.

Well-Known Cannabis Businesses in D.C.

Since we've already discussed the state of the cannabis business in D.C. and how entrepreneurs can apply for the legal marijuana business, let's talk about some of the most successful and influential cannabis entrepreneurs in D.C. and how they overcome all the challenges of the industry.

#.1 The Couple Behind “The Retailers”

The owners of this well-known company are Jeffrey Kahn and Stephanie Reifkind Kahn. The pair launched their dispensary in 2013, putting it one of the longest-running in DC, after years of service in healthcare and utilizing the rabbinate to assist families to deal with illness.

With $7.6 million in sales, it was also the city's highest-grossing in 2019. Josh works alongside his parents in the marijuana industry, and his brother, James, has served for other neighborhood pot businesses.

#2. The Tastemaker

Jamila Hogan is the owner of The Tastemaker. " Mills is to pot what a master some is to wine," a cannabis judge who anoints prize-winning "strain hunters" in international contests.

She may be DC's most eloquent kush critic, reviewing dispensary goods and locally produced buds on her site, Pass the Jay, based on her experience as a previous farmer. Mills also advises and instructs, teaching producers and consumers about the olfactory characteristics that distinguish marijuana strains and their benefits. She's known for her pitch: Better bud = more education + more discriminating customers.

The Role of the Cannabis Industry in the New Normal

The world has been dealing with the pandemic for over a year now, causing serious health, social, and economic impacts. Even the United States experienced such negative effects. The good news is that we are now moving toward a more normal state.

The Role of the Cannabis Industry in the New Normal.jpg

Regardless, it is important to note that the “normal” that we are entering is not the normal that we used to know but a so-called new normal, referring to a post-pandemic world. In the new normal, everyone would need to observe the things that we have adapted to during the pandemic including following public health protocols.

For the cannabis community, one positive thing that can be observed during the pandemic is the series of legalizations across the US. A few states recently instated the full legalization of marijuana, while some legalized medical marijuana. Many states also listed cannabis as an essential service, leading to some adjusting their laws in light of the pandemic.

As the future of the cannabis industry is looking bright, it is important to note that lawmakers are looking at the marijuana market as a way to address some issues that we encountered during the pandemic.

Cannabis Industry Landscape

Before we talk about the potential of the cannabis industry in the new normal, let us first take a look at the current landscape. Currently, 38 out of 50 states have medical marijuana programs, 17 of which allow its recreational use. Many of the rest allow the use of CBD products within the legal threshold. Given this, there is no doubt that the industry will continue to expand. If in the year 2017, there were around 20,000 to 28,000 cannabis businesses in the US, it is reasonable to expect that this number has increased.

It is also important to note recent numbers, which show that the industry has a market value of $20.5 billion in 2020. Numbers have improved during the pandemic. According to studies, Americans spent a whopping $18.3 billion on legal marijuana when comparing April 2020 and April 2021 figures. This is a great improvement compared to past year-on-year figures at $10.7 billion, showing a $7.6 billion increase.

This can be an indication of consumers’ increased need to get the benefits that marijuana can offer including stress relief and relaxation, especially as stay-at-home orders have largely impacted the mental health of many individuals.

With such information, it is reasonable to expect that the cannabis industry will continue to go strong over the next years. In fact, projections values expect the sector to Studies expect this number to go up to $90.4 billion by 2026, showing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28%.

More states are also expected to legalize cannabis, what with the bills currently being reviewed in some. Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island are looking over some House Bills that would legalize adult-use marijuana, while Alabama and North Carolina have respective Senate Bills aiming for medical marijuana legalization.

New Normal and the Cannabis Industry

The changes in the marijuana market during the public health crisis can have effects on the new normal. So, how can the cannabis industry contribute to the public and states during the new normal? Here are some of the most likely impacts:

·         State Income Generation

The pandemic has ground the economies of many states to a halt. Many non-essential establishments closed, resulting in the temporary unemployment of some but the more long-term lack of work for many.

While personal finances of individuals and the cash flow of businesses are affected, states also saw a decrease in revenues due to reduced and limited economic activity. In addition, state funds are also bleeding as their governments work to address the physical, economic, and mental effects of the pandemic.

The opening of various marijuana companies in states where it is legal is expected to generate income. The most important economic aspect of legalization is that it regulates the production, retail, and consumption of marijuana products. Taxation is a huge part of these reforms.

Lawmakers across the United States see the industry as a great way to generate revenues. Bills proposing the legalization of marijuana highlight the industry’s potential to raise millions of dollars in tax revenues. This is supported by projections.

In the District of Columbia, the potential recreational marijuana excise tax revenue for a minimum of three years is $26,605,996, $135,837,117 in Maryland, and $139,977,848 in Virginia. Outside of the DMV, some states have earned much more than the projected amount. Some states even surpassed the projections. For example, Colorado was projected to earn $230,239,177 but it earned $307,278,327 in the fiscal year of 2020.

Some states also have projected earnings of billions. It is notable that many of the states are yet to reach the potential amount within.

·         Repayment of State Debt

Aside from state funds bleeding dry because of the pandemic and its effects, the crisis also prompted many states to accumulate debt. In fact, one of the reasons that Illinois legalized the plant is to help pay off some of its debt. Given the tax revenues that can be generated by states with marijuana law reforms in place, legalization is a great move.

Colorado is one of the states that conducted a long-term study of the impact of legalization on the economy and tax revenues. The state began selling cannabis in 2014 and by 2021, the cumulative tax revenues it earned is a whopping $1.7 billion. Particularly, the state earned 4388 million in direct taxes which shows a 28% increase compared to last year.

The tremendous earnings states could potentially earn means that states can get additional money to pay for state debt they accumulated from different sources, particularly the pandemic.

·         Job Creation in Legal States

Aside from the income, the industry can generate, a more impactful contribution it can offer is job creation. It is important to note that people lost jobs during the pandemic, which led to the decrease in people’s weaker purchasing power. This can affect states that rely on taxes generated by purchases.

While stimulus funds can help invigorate the economy, a more sustainable solution is to open up employment opportunities. The marijuana sector is one of the best job generators. In Colorado, the industry has created 18,000 direct jobs. These are openings in cannabis facilities such as cultivation sites, factories, dispensaries, and other similar establishments.

Aside from direct jobs, the state also saw a 23% increase in indirect employment. These are jobs that will enable the operation of cannabis businesses such as construction, legal services, and security.

Cannabis Activities That Could Continue in the New Normal

In light of the changes in the industry during the pandemic, some of them are bound to stick. The following are activities and policies that might continue after the pandemic.

·         Weed Delivery

Before the pandemic, many states have restricted laws on cannabis product deliveries, while others prohibit it entirely. The stay-at-home orders and other public health protocols have prompted some states to relax their policies.

An example of this is the District of Columbia, which expanded its delivery rules in light of the pandemic. Before, dispensaries were only allowed to deliver within the window of 11AM to 7PM. New rules were released to widen the window to 9AM to 9PM, giving consumers and patients more time to get their products. Dispensaries were also allowed to deploy three delivery vehicles instead of only one.

Hopefully, the more relaxed rules imposed by the district will remain even in the new normal.

·         Virtual Weed Events

Another important development during the crisis is the use of virtual platforms to hold cannabis events. In the past, on-site conferences and exhibitions were the most popular forms of holding events, especially as these are the most interactive mode. The pandemic has prompted organizers to go virtual to minimize the risks of exposure.

In the new normal, states will still need to imposed health and safety protocols, virtual events are here to stay. Even without protocols, organizers can still use such platforms to enable community members, industry leaders, and other participants all over the US and the globe to join these events even at the comfort of their own homes.

·         Recreational Use of Cannabis

One of the most interesting impacts of the pandemic is that more people found cannabis more appealing. It is known to dispel stress and anxiety, which prompted many to try infused products, contributing to the increase in sales that the market saw over the past months.

The Role of the Cannabis Industry in the New Normal.jpg

People who picked up the consumption of cannabis products could continue to use them for recreational purposes, joining the millions of Americans who are regular consumers of these products. This is most likely to happen to individuals living in states where weed is legal.

Conclusion

The cannabis industry has to offer the economy, health, and society as we enter the new normal. Currently, we can observe its effects in its contributions as early as now. The potential contributions of the sector can greatly increase tax revenues, job creation, and even spur a few positive changes in the cannabis community.

Maryland’s Culta Partners with New Age Nanotech

Leading Maryland cannabis company Culta recently announced its partnership with New Age Nanotech, said PR Newswire. It is known for developing and offering clinically-proven cannabis delivery technology. Both companies will work to develop edibles and offer it through a new brand, which will be opening in the first quarter of next year.

New Age Nanotech’s solution, Solutech, seeks to offer fast-acting edibles that would allow consumers to feel the effects of cannabinoids within minutes of consumption. It aims to provide a better and more modern alternative to existing edibles, smoking, and vaping.

Culta president and co-founder Mackie Barch said, “Rapid-onset is the future of cannabis. The future of cannabis isn’t smoking or vaping and people don’t want to wait an hour for edibles to work.” He added, “New Age’s rapid-onset technology will allow us to create products with a safe but fast onset in five to fifteen minutes. No more horror stories of overindulging on edibles.”

Maryland’s Culta Partners with New Age Nanotech.jpg

Culta, which was founded in 2015, is at the forefront of cannabis cultivation on the East Coast. It distributes different brands of cannabis products across Maryland including Culta, Cookies, Willie’s Reserve, Apothecana, and GPen. Its catalog includes a lot of various products such as flowers, extracts, and concentrates.

The two companies are combining their expertise to offer ways to address the challenges presented by cannabis infusing namely limited shelf-stability, poor absorption, and inconsistent dosing. New Age Nanotech’s Solutech is seen as a solution to these issues.

Solutech is described as “a clear, pharmaceutical-grade, bioactive formulation” by a firm that specializes in oral delivery technologies. According to PR Newswire, “New Age Nanotech’s early research on Solutech showed dramatically increased speed of absorption and elimination (fast onset and offset of effects), peak blood levels and bioavailability, along with a consistent and desirable consumer experience.”

It is currently in a crucial stage in human clinical trials conducted by KGK Science, a research organization focused on medical and clinical studies. The trial was approved by Health Canada and is set to complete soon.

Regarding this partnership, CEO of New Age Nanotech CEO Volker Berl said, “We couldn’t be more thrilled that Culta will develop and launch Solutech-infused premium products to the Maryland market. Our licensing partnership represents two best-in-class companies joining forces to develop clinically-backed and reliably-dosed products with Culta’s craft cannabis.”

The introduction of Solutech in the implementation of cannabis in humans through consumption is expected to be a “fastest-acting, most bioavailable and comprehensively studied delivery system.”

Choosing the Right Product for You

In light of this new development, you may be looking forward to consuming the results of Culta and New Age Nanotech’s collaboration. However, as it is set to be launched in Q1 of 2021, you only have the option to purchase from current dispensaries. With the gamechanger features to be introduced by the two companies, you might want to consider these factors when choosing products to consume. Here are some of the most important elements.

  • Method of Consumption

The first thing you need to consider is the method of consumption you prefer. You want to make sure that you are comfortable with the products you consume and this plays a huge factor. There are a lot of product types that offer different ways to consume them. You can choose among flowers that are smoked, vape pens that are inhaled, topicals that are applied to the skin, and edible which are ingested.

You want to make sure that you choose the right method as this can affect your experience. Aside from the way it is consumed, the effect of your cannabis products can also be affected. Keep in mind that inhaling smoke and vapor offers faster reaction time compared to edibles and topicals. If you are looking for a fast-acting effect, then you want to choose a suitable one.

Culta and New Age Nanotech’s products with the help of Solutech seeks to speed up the effects of edibles, so if you prefer edibles but you are looking for faster responses, then you will have to wait for the release of their products.

  • Dosage

Dosage is another factor that can dictate how potent the products will be. Usually, the more you consume, the more potent it will be. You should see to it that you only consume the amount you can handle, as it is the responsible thing to do. Plus, it can help you enjoy your experience better.

One thing you should know is many people who consume edibles tend to consume more because the cannabinoids take time to take effect. However, this results not in giving the effects sooner but elevating the level of cannabinoids they consume. Plus, the cannabinoids undergo a process in the digestive system that makes them more potent. Combined with increased consumption, this significantly increases their level of potency.

Because of this, you want to make sure that you check the cannabinoid content of any cannabis product you want to consume. This can help you safely and moderately intake products.

Again, this is an issue that Culta and New Age Nanotech want to address. By released edibles that are fast-acting, they aim to minimize instances of overconsumption.

  • Content

Lastly, you want to make sure that you are aware of exactly what the contents of your products are, specifically the cannabinoids. In many states, cannabidiol products are legal, but there is a limit to the THC content these products have. It is important to look at the ratio of CBD and THC to estimate the kind of effects it will have and how potent it.

As mentioned above, keep in mind that ingesting these items can result in a significantly stronger impact because of the process they undergo in the digestive system. This way, you can consume the product according to your needs.

Accessing Cannabis Products

After you assess your needs and decide on what kind of products you want to buy, you need to look for safe and convenient options to purchase your choices. If you live in the DMV or plan to move or visit the area soon, you might be wondering how you can get your hands on cannabis products. This is essential especially in light of the pandemic. Moreover, you can use these tips to help you access Culta and New Age Nanotech’s products when they become available. Here are your best options.

  • Weed Delivery

This option is your best bet if you are looking for a hassle-free way to purchase cannabis. Where allowed, cannabis delivery rules are getting stronger, with consideration to marijuana patients and other consumers. In this way, you do not have to leave the house just to get your supplies. Plus, most dispensaries offer contactless payments and deliveries. This is easy, convenient, and fast.

However, if you need to get your order from the delivery person, then you should exercise caution and wear protective gear to minimize any risks of exposure.

  • Curbside Pickups

Another way to safely get your items is to call your dispensary and order for curbside pickup. This is the method of buying in which you will need to drive down to the store, go to a designated area, and wait for a member of the staff to give you your order. This offers minimal contact, allowing you to minimize your risk of exposure.

  • Walk-ins

If you have no choice or you simply prefer to get a feel of the new normal, you can simply do walk-ins. However, you should remember that stores implement safety and health protocols including social distancing, wearing of protective gear, and periodical sanitation of surfaces. They may also limit the number of customers allowed inside the establishments.

photo-1594663787096-bb4ce20f6a86.jpeg

Moreover, they are bound to restrict activities that can increase the risk of exposure such as sniffing products from jars, offering samples on the site, and other similar limitations. While these may seem annoying or irritating, these can help maintain your wellbeing as we go through this pandemic, while still giving you safe access to cannabis.

  • Other Notable Cannabis Services

If you need to consult your cannabis doctor, you can choose telemedicine. You can also go this route for renewing your MMJ card. However, different areas have different rules. In Maryland and DC, telemedicine is allowed for renewals, but DC specifies that this option is not allowed for the initial appointment.

In Maryland and Washington, DC, all these options are available as cannabis is seen as an essential service in these two areas. However, if you are in Virginia, keep in mind that there are no safe access rules in the state, according to the Marijuana Policy Project. To safely access cannabis in this state, you can opt for in-store visits, but you should observe safety protocols to ensure your health while you pick up products.

The Bottom Line

Culta and New Age Nanotech’s new products are expected to be a great addition to the cannabis scene. While waiting for its release in the first quarter of 2021, you can safely access existing cannabis products with these methods.

MMJ Dispensaries Open Up Shop in Virginia

As the state of Virginia is looking to legalize marijuana, more and more medical marijuana dispensaries are opening their doors in the region. In the past few weeks and months alone, three medical dispensaries have opened its doors to MMJ patients in Virginia in attempts to cater to the increased demands and needs of the people.

Among the first three companies to do so are Dharma Pharmaceuticals in Bristol, Green Leaf Medical in Richmond, and BEYOND/HELLO located in Manassas. Dharma Pharmaceuticals first opened its dispensary in October 2020, followed by Green Leaf Medical in the last week of November 2020.

The opening of all three dispensaries comes as Virginia changed its laws to decriminalize those who have access to CBD-dominant extract products. Under the reformed legislation which first occurred in 2015, patients whose physicians have recommended cannabis as a primary form of treatment or management tool may possess up to 90 days’ worth of products under their name.

MMJ Dispensaries Open Up Shop in Virginia.jpg

Low-THC medical cannabis was allowed to be used for the treatment of those suffering from intractable epilepsy, provided these contained no more than five percent of THC. It was only in 2018 when marijuana products gained legality in the state, expanding the bill to include not just epilepsy patients, but all patients who could benefit from the drug.

This 2020, five years since the amended legislation have been put into place, the state of Virginia is proud to offer patients what they need. In a statement to NORML in October of this year, Jenn Michelle Padini, Development Director of NORML said, “Five long years after beginning the legislative process to bring medical cannabis to Virginians, we are thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of the Commonwealth’s first dispensary.”

“This day could not come soon enough for the thousands of Virginians who have been waiting patiently for in-state access to safe, regulated products. Virginia NORML has been on the front lines of this effort every step of the way, and I’m so proud of our members’ tireless work to make this a reality,” continued Padini.

As part of the medical cannabis dispensaries’ commitment to making their products more available and accessible to customers, these companies are providing their own home delivery operations. This allows MMJ patients to easily obtain medication designed to address their specific conditions.

Existing Weed Delivery Rules in Virginia

Medical marijuana dispensaries are only accessible to licensed patients recognized by the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy. For those living in the Commonwealth, the state law maintains that any individual diagnosed with any condition can obtain and qualify for medical cannabis treatment. However, this will only hold true provided the medical practitioner or the physician in question issues a certification that allows the patient to be treated using medical marijuana.

Given that the state has already decriminalized the drug to some degree, the new laws in place ensure that individuals in possession of small amounts of cannabis designed for personal consumption would not be subjected to having a criminal record nor prison time.

Deliveries have become a mainstay in the new norm, alongside curbside pickups and even telemedicine services. Most dispensaries in the state are now allowing product deliveries either on the same day or have it shipped, the latter of which takes a few days prior to receiving your package.

How Weed Delivery Changed the Game

The virus pandemic has greatly changed the way the cannabis industry conducted its business. From its in-person interactions with patients and users in the community to the services being afforded, it cannot be denied that the worldwide incident has impacted not only the business but the lives of many people around the globe.

Thankfully, alongside the digitization of services came decriminalization and the movement towards legalization. This entails that dispensaries are offering products and services in a more confident light. May it be displaying products clearly and properly, labeling items, and becoming more open to conversation, the changing tide is paving the way for a brighter future.

Technology has also adapted to the times, especially now that people are staying more indoors. Many established companies and startups alike have allowed their medical marijuana dispensaries to venture into cannabis delivery.

One of the ways that weed delivery changed the marijuana industry for the better is that it furthered the accessibility and convenience of cannabis products in the industry. Where once these were only accessible through physical stores, purchases can now be delivered at home with just the click of a button. At the very core, it preserves safe patient access across various levels, overcoming hurdles such as lack of transportation.

Besides offering hassle-free services, it also shows the dedication of those involved in the cannabis industry just how dedicated they are in extending and catering to the needs of their clients with delivery services and even curbside pick-up.

More than this, it provides an added element of safety and security, particularly to the more vulnerable patients and sectors in society such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and individuals who suffer from mobility restrictions. Leaving the products on your doorstep without the need for physical contact, it reduces the chances of getting the virus or from having to exert much effort. It also offers superior privacy, allowing clients to enjoy their cannabis products without the hullaballoo.

Getting Cannabis Products in Virginia

  • Get Weed Delivery Services

There are many concerns about weed delivery, especially for those who have yet to experience the service themselves. Thankfully, what is great about these types of services is that cannabis products are thoroughly checked at every point, ensuring that strict controls are in place to maintain the quality of products and services.

With numerous weed delivery services popping up in Virginia alone, you can rest assured that you get safer and high-quality products, rather than being restricted solely to what the black market has to offer.

By utilizing weed delivery services for your needs, you are not only making the whole buying process much easier, but you are also streamlining the overall process. However, in choosing services providers and medical marijuana dispensaries to deliver your products, make sure to find one that does door-to-door delivery or those that same-day deliveries, especially for emergency situations. This ensures you that all of your needs are taken care of without having to leave the comforts of your own home.

  • Consider Curbside Pick-Ups

If you are still iffy about totally switching to deliveries, we get you. To get on the middle ground, why not try a curbside pick-up service? This allows you to get the items you have ordered on the curbside rather than entering the store.

This option is a great compromise to see how well the dispensary works and if they stay on top of the numerous orders they receive from different types of customers. Plus, this also serves as a great way to minimize contact while still ensuring that you have received all of the necessary items under your list.

To do this, make sure to check if your preferred store offers curbside or scheduled pick-ups. Let them know about your orders beforehand so you can minimize your waiting time as well, particularly during a time when public health safety and security is at stake.

  • Do Private Meet-Ups

Unfortunately, despite having delivery services available, there simply are just some products that are not eligible for delivery. Whatever these products might be, private meet-ups might be your best bet. This allows you to purchase your cannabis goods at a much closer location while having space and time mostly to yourself.

Not all dispensaries offer this kind of service, so make sure to see if your medical marijuana dispensary provides this type of service for their clients. Besides getting the order yourself and at a much faster pace, you will also have the opportunity to discuss more marijuana products with personnel who are knowledgeable about what they are selling.

  • Visit In-Store

Many individuals are still scared to go outside and for good reason. There is, after all, still a pandemic happening. With the marijuana industry touted as one of the essential businesses that can operate, it can be surprising to see them operating.

Although it is not business as usual for these companies, they have certainly adapted to the needs and the call of the times. In-store visits are now more secure than ever, what with sanitation practices observed every so often in an hour.

What’s more, there are also enhanced safety protocols in place. From placing plastic or acrylic shields, encouraging the use of credit or debit cards for payments, to getting temperatures and observing contact tracing practices, in-store visits have now dramatically changed for the better.

Final Thoughts

The opening of new medical marijuana dispensaries in various parts of Virginia is only the start of fulfilling the needs of many MMJ patients in the Commonwealth. With dispensaries offering a more varied range of products and making these more accessible through weed delivery, patients in the state can now easily access their orders through a safer and more secure manner.

ABRA Takes Over MMJ Program in DC, Extends Delivery Time

The federal District of Columbia has been working on its medical cannabis program throughout the coronavirus pandemic. One important development in the capitol’s marijuana laws is its shift in the overseeing agency. According to a report by Marijuana Moment, the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) will be taking over the medical cannabis program in the district. The Department of Health was formerly responsible for this initiative.

This shift is in line with the current budget proposal by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser back in May. Supporters of the medical marijuana program are optimistic about this move as it is deemed a favorable action for the full legalization of the plant in district. The full legalization of cannabis is expected to make the growing, production, distribution, sales and consumption of adult-use recreational cannabis legal and regulated.

Since it took over on October 1, ABRA has been implementing progressive measures to approach marijuana in light of the pandemic. One of these is to allow job applicants to work at a cannabis company for 45 days while undergoing criminal background checks. These companies include cultivation facilities, dispensaries or testing laboratories. This move seeks to avoid backlogs in supply and to meet demands.

Mayor Bowser’s proposal also includes renaming ABRA to the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration.

While the district is working toward legalization, Marijuana Moment noted that “a congressional ride blocks DC from using its own local tax dollars to set up a legal adult-use cannabis market.” Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) has been criticizing the rider. She also stated that the current pandemic calls for a more open retail of MMJ products to deal with the economic impact of the public health issue.

As the rider still stands, the regulating agency is putting efforts to give MMJ patients better access to products in light of the pandemic.

Weed Delivery Rules in DC

At the start of the stay-at-home orders back in April, the district has declared cannabis as an essential service. With this temporary emergency rule, delivery of products has been allowed during the pandemic within limited hours. Patients were able to have products delivered to their location from 11 AM to 7 PM.

However, with the take over of ABRA, new rules about weed delivery now applies. Starting October 1, patients can avail of deliveries from 9 AM to 9 AM, giving them a 12-hour window to get the supplies they need without leaving the comfort of their home. ABRA has also allowed dispensaries to deploy a fleet of three delivery vehicles, instead of only one before the rule amendment.

In a notice released by ABRA on October 1, it said, “The ongoing Coronavirus oandemic has added to the strain on persons with health conditions for which they were recommended medical cannabis.” The Administration also recognized the need for flexibility in weed delivery rules, especially with the number of vehicles used to deliver orders and hours allowed to make deliveries.

Furthermore, the notice also acknowledged the need for immediate action, in light of the fact that the pandemic is still on-going and changes in the situation can occur. Ultimately, ABRA said that the decision to expand delivery rules “is necessary for the promotion of the health, safety, and welfare of District residents.”

What Cannabis Products Can You Have Delivered?

With the flexibility offered by the district when it comes to weed delivery, will be able to get your hands on your preferred cannabis products without leaving your home. If you are wondering what items you can have delivered, you will be glad to know that there is a wide variety of products you can purchase. Check out our menu to see.

Dispensaries can deliver different strains of flowers. Usually, they carry sativas, indicas and hybrids, all of which offer varying degrees of effects. Make sure to choose strains that fit your needs, which depends on the medical condition your MMJ card is addressing.

If you are not into smoking medical cannabis, you also have the option to have vape pens delivered. Many shops offer cartridges to load into your vape pen. You can also purchase edibles such as brownies, gummies and cereal bars for a more discreet consumption.

Other Safe Access Rules in DC

The district’s safe access rules are not limited to weed delivery. You can also get your supply of medical cannabis products and services through various means. Here are some of the most valuable options:

·         Extension of MMJ Cards

Patients and personnel who hold registrations which expired on or after March 11 will be able to enjoy a 45-day extension of their cards and licenses after the end of the public health emergency.

This measure is valuable for medical marijuana patients as many of them have conditions that make them more vulnerable to the virus. Because they have increased risks of contracting the disease, they are advised to limit going out, which prevents them from renewing their cards in-person. With an extension, they will be able to get their supply of medical cannabis while working with renewals once the city’s emergency is over.

·         Telemedicine

Speaking of renewals, current MMJ cardholders will be pleased to know that while they may not be able to renew in-person, they have the option to do so online. The district allows telemedicine for renewals. Telemedicine, which is the practice of remote patient care, has been practiced in the district even before the pandemic.

However, for cannabis medicine and in light of the pandemic, patients can only set appointments for renewals. Those who are planning to get their registrations for the first time are not allowed to use telemedicine for this purpose.

·         Curbside Pickups and Meet-Ups

Those who prefer to pickup their orders can minimize exposure through curbside pickups. What patients just need to do is to get in touch with the dispensary of your choice to place your order. Then, you will need to drive down to the site and wait for the store’s staff to bring your order to you.

Before you go, make sure to ask about the mode of payment they prefer. Because of risks of transmission, many establishments are only accepting contactless payments, which can be through digital transfers and credit cards.

Take note that because cannabis remains to be federally illegal, many traditional financial institutions such as banks avoid dealing with the industry, resulting in the underbanking of the sector. Because of this, only a handful of dispensaries accept credit cards.

Asking about their mode of payment is a great way to avoid any hassle, especially if you are used to paying in cash or credit cards.

·         In-Store Visits with Safety Precautions

With dispensaries being dubbed as an essential service, remaining open and catering to the clientele is of utmost importance. However, many people are still wary of going out, what with the virus still rampant.

Thankfully, numerous establishments are adapting to the new normal, and as such, are taking on various safety precautions in line with the state and the government’s mandate. So, if you prefer to visit the store to buy your supply, then you definitely have this option.

Among the practices taken by establishments and dispensaries alike when it comes to in-store visits are screening all individuals via a body temperature check and conducting contact tracing initiatives by providing a health questionnaire on possible symptoms and contact with persons with COVID-19.

Apart from physical distancing, the strict enforcement of face masks, as well as face shields, are also observed by establishments.

To promote good hygiene and sanitation, dispensaries are also requiring visitors to undergo hand washing or disinfection through the help of alcohol or sanitizer. Handwashing and sanitizing products, such as soap, water, alcohol, and or hand sanitizer are located in various parts of the store, including all entry and exit points.

In line with enhanced hygiene and sanitation practices, employees and are also ordered to disinfect high-traffic and high-touch surfaces and equipment where customers come in contact within the store.

Last but not least, customers are encouraged to peruse electronic gadgets and devices – such as leveraging QR codes for selecting items and even contactless solutions – to limit contact with other individuals.

Reminders for Purchasing Cannabis in DC

ABRA director Fred Moosally expressed his optimism about the Administration’s take over of the MMJ program. According to Moossally, “We look forward to collaborating with key stakeholders including patients, caregivers, healthcare practitioners, industry leaders, and advocates to further enhance what has become a national model program.”

As a patient, you will also need to work with the authorities to ensure the safety and legality of your possession and consumption. As a DC resident, you can have up to 2 ounces or less without penalties or incarceration. You can also grow 6 plants or less without punishments. Your paraphernalia are also safe as there are no penalties and jailtime for them. However, public use can be charged with a misdemeanor with cite and release.

The Bottom Line

The more flexible rules for cannabis access in DC introduced by ABRA allows MMJ cardholders a safer way to purchase the products they need. With these weed delivery and other safe access rules, you can minimize health risks while getting the medical cannabis supplies you need.

Maryland Developers Create Cannabis Effects Journal App

Maryland has one of the most successful legal cannabis industries in the country, with numerous marijuana companies applying to get their respective licenses to grow, harvest, produce and distribute cannabis products. It also has a well-received medical marijuana program, which has been thriving over the past months.

In fact, the state’s medical cannabis market sales are quickly nearing $500,000 million annually. According to expert assessments, Maryland’s efficiency in handling the medical marijuana program contributes a huge deal with the market’s success. Industry players are able to refer to clear-cut and transparent regulations. The state’s regulator, the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission, has also stabilized patient access and compliance.

Because of the success of the program, more and more residents are becoming interested in the potentials of the plant. Some of these patients have developed their own way to make their consumption more effective and efficient. This is precisely what Otha Smith II did when he created the application Tetragram. The main purpose of this app is to keep track of the effects of 22 marijuana compounds available in Maryland

Tetragram App - To Monitor Your Cannabis Intake

How the App Works

For those who are new to the scene, cannabis products in Maryland have labels showing how much of the 22 chemical compounds the products contain. The application lets users log the effects on their body and mind when they consume items with certain levels of a compound. Aside from the more well-known compounds called cannabinoids such as cannabinoids (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the plant also contains terpenes like alpha-pinene and myrcene.

While cannabinoids have more widely recognized effects on the body and mind, many people are not that much aware that terpenes have physical and mental effects, as well. Tetragram lets Maryland consumers list down the exact products they used, its chemical composition and its effects on them. This way, consumers can simply take a look at the entries provided by other users and see whether the product is fit for them.

The idea came to Smith as he consumed products that are low in alpha-pinene, a compound found in cannabis, pine trees and rosemary that promotes energy. Smith opts for products that are low in this compound to avoid getting an energy boost as he naturally has high energy levels. To counter his excessive energy, he chooses items that are high in myrcene, a compound found in marijuana and hops that has sedative properties.

Tetragram gathers aggregate data which can help patients and cannabis healthcare workers gain a better understanding of the potentially positive and negative effects of using the plan. For patients, this app can help them find first-hand feedback from other patients and minimize the need to rely on budtender recommendations. With this, they can reduce the risk of trying products and strains that may have negative effects on their specific case.

The app also seeks to dispel some misconceptions about the plant. It introduces lesser-known compounds contained by marijuana, thus informing users that there is more to it than CBD and THC. By making terpenes more known, users can factor in their effects when trying out new products. This is helpful, especially for those who might encounter products that are incompatible to their needs and immediately concludes that cannabis only has negative effects.

Smith himself is a medical marijuana cardholder in Maryland, who was overwhelmed with the variety of choices available when he first obtained his card. Shad Ewart, professor at Anne Arundel Community College, is optimistic about the potential of Smith’s Tetragram. With the lack of reliable and sound consumer data regarding usage and effect, the app can help build a pool of entries that can be used by the cannabis community as a guide in cultivating and developing products.

Aside from the logging feature, Smith said that there is more to come including review sharing with friends and doctors. They developers are also planning to add a way for users to interact without divulging personally identifiable information.

Using Tetragram to Monitor Your Cannabis Intake

With the potential of this application to benefit Tetragram offers not only to patients but also to cultivators and dispensaries, you might be interested in contributing to the community using this application. Here are some of the things you should do when using this app:

  • Know Your Needs

Any medical marijuana patient probably has an idea of what their body and mind needs. For example, patients who experience chronic pain are prescribed MMJ because of this debilitating condition or symptom. However, it is important to know what exactly it is your body needs, just like Smith who opted for products without energy-boosting effects because of his naturally high energy.

So, if you find yourself lacking the energy to get through the day, you need to look for products that contain compounds that can give you energy. CBD and alpha-pinene are chemical contents that can make you feel more energized, so opt for items that have higher levels of these.

  • Take a Look at User Recommendations

Before heading to your dispensary, you might want to look at user recommendations entered into Tetragram. Remember that the main purpose of this app is to let you make your own entries and view those entered by others. Make sure to browse through products and their effects to see whether or not they fit your needs.

  • Observe the Effects

Once you get your hands on your preferred product, the next thing you should do is to consume it and see how it affects your body and mind. Take time to feel the effects. Is it making you feel relaxed or is it amping up your energy? Are you able to think more clearly or are you feeling sedated?

Taking note of these properties can help you know whether you are getting the intended effects. Moreover, it aids in your goal to contribute to the community through the app.

  • Log the Product and Effects Correctly

Lastly, you should take the time to log your findings. However, see to it that you enter accurate information when it comes to the percentage of content of the product. Your observation regarding the effects should also be accurate. Avoid exaggerating or minimizing your description. Remember, others will rely on these reviews.

Where Can You Get Cannabis Products Nowadays?

You might be interested in contributing to Tetragram’s database but one of the most apparent challenges over the past months is buying cannabis because of the stay-at-home orders due to the virus pandemic. Well, you will be glad to know that Maryland's dispensaries continue to operate because they were officially considered essential services and businesses.

However, keep in mind that these stores, just like many others, may impose safety protocols such as social or physical distancing rules and wearing masks. Some actions may also not be allowed such as sniffing products and deli-style sales. Additionally, you may see the staff constantly cleaning and disinfecting the store.

Convenient and Safe Tips for Buying Cannabis

If you are worried about purchasing products because of the public health issue, there are some things you can do to minimize the risks. Check out these useful tips:

  • Have it Delivered

At the start of the lockdowns back in March, the Maryland government has allowed dispensaries to deliver cannabis products. With the use of Tetragram, there is no need to browse for products you will potentially buy because you already know what you need and want. You just need to ask your dispensary if they offer weed delivery, send in your order and wait for it to arrive right at your doorstep.

  • Choose Curbside Pickups

Those who are going out or have no problem doing errands can pick curbside pickups. You just need to place your order and wait for the store to inform you that your order is ready. Then, simply drive to the dispensary and park in designated parking spots where staff will collect your payment, check your ID or card, then give your order.

This is a great way to minimize your wait time, especially if you are doing errands outside your home while also reducing contact and practicing distancing.

  • If You Prefer Store Visits, Wear Protective Gear

Nothing beats the experience of visiting your favorite shops and browsing their products. This gives you an idea about new items you can try while also having your budtender nearby so that you can ask questions and get immediate answers. If you prefer visiting your dispensary, then you should see to it that you wear protective gear.

As mentioned, many commercial establishments require the wearing of masks before they let customers into the shop. Be prepared to wear a mask before heading to your favorite dispensary. You might also want to bring hand sanitizers or alcohol to clean your hands before and after the purchase.

With these tips, you can contribute to the industry by logging your experience. Just make sure to choose among the best ways to safely purchase your products and you are good to go.

Maryland to Consider Amending Medical Marijuana Laws

In a great leap of development in the cannabis industry, the United States Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology will be doing a marijuana testing program. This program seeks to make sure that product labels compliant, complete with accurate information regarding laboratory tests and their results, said a Marijuana Moment report.

According to the article, this is a way to assure consumers that the labels are truthful. The report said, “When you walk into a store or dispensary and see a label that says 10% CBD, you want to know that you can trust that number.”

This federal development coincides with the state of Maryland’s decision to evaluate the possibility of changing its current medical marijuana laws. In a request for public comment issued by the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC), the committee announced that it will be holding an online meeting on July 30, 2020 tackling various topics including expanding permissions, diversity, pandemic measures and fine schedules.

Ghouse DC - Maryland Marijuana

In the past, the Maryland marijuana market has been under fire for having a less diverse industry even with its program that seeks to enable minorities to own, run or operate marijuana companies. Because of this, the MMCC will be addressing the issue in the online meeting and will be “[welcoming] public comment on any proposal in support of increasing diversity and social equity.”

Another important matter that will be discussed in the upcoming meeting is the current state of emergency in the country brought by the virus pandemic. The public comment request emphasized that the state has released several bulletins that placed temporary measures including the suspension of patient signature requirements and the permitting of on-site or curbside deliveries.

According to Marijuana Policy Project, Maryland has placed other safe access policies for the pandemic, including telehealth services, permissions for the entire cannabis supply chain to operate, prompt processing of registration renewals and extension of agent registrations.

The commission is soliciting comments from the public as to whether such measures will continue to persist even after the pandemic.

Key Facts About Maryland’s Marijuana Laws

During this state of emergency, Maryland residents were able to enjoy weed delivery services. However, this is only a temporary measure, as mentioned. Its existing laws entail that the possession of fewer than 10 grams for personal use will only be treated as a civil offense with a maximum of $100 of fine and no incarceration. The possession of paraphernalia is also seen as a civil offense without any fines and jail time.

Possession of 10 grams to less than 50 lbs is considered a misdemeanor with a maximum of 1 year in prison and a fine of $1,000. Meanwhile, those with intent to distribute will be charged with felony with 5 years to 40 years of jail time and up to $1,000,000 fine, depending on the extent of the offense.

The state also allows the implementation of medical cannabis treatments to students who have their MMJ cards even during school hours and school-sponsored events. The law is still now in effect, but the Department of Education and the Medical Cannabis Commission are set to submit a well-developed set of guidelines by December 31, 2020.

Even with medical cannabis laws in place, an advocacy called People’s Commission to Decriminalize Maryland revealed its plan to fight state and local policies that enable the marginalization of people and the targeting of marginalized populations in the implementation of cannabis laws. The group has been taking steps to minimize the disparate effects of targeted policing in relation to marijuana.

Ways to Purchase Medical Marijuana in Maryland

Now that you know the pertinent laws that govern marijuana consumption and distribution in Maryland, you are now aware of the limitations of carrying products on your person. If you are a resident of Maryland or any nearby states such as Washington, DC and Virginia, you might want to purchase cannabis from any of the MD dispensaries. Here are some ways you can do so:

  • Avail Weed Delivery Services

One of the most important temporary measures regarding cannabis in relation to the current state of emergency is the legalization of weed delivery. This policy enables patients to purchase the products they need, especially during a time when dispensaries are considered essential services. With the permission of the MMCC, Maryland dispensaries can do onsite deliveries, curbside pickups, and home deliveries.

This is a great way to minimize contact with people at a time when a communicable disease is widely persisting. This allows for minimal contact, while ensuring that you will be able to get the right products. Just make sure that your favorite dispensary offers such services and you are good to go.

  • Attend Weed Events

Another great source of cannabis products is stalls or sellers present in events such as exhibitions, expositions, and conferences. However, because of the virus outbreak, many events were canceled or postponed, so you will be hard-pressed to find an event you can attend.

However, you have the option to ask your dispensary if they do meetups. This is a great choice if you have a preferred store, but you find it too far for you to go to in light of the current public health situation. Some stores schedule private meetups for purchases below the minimum for deliveries.

Meetups let you meet people who are also medical marijuana patients. This is a great way to find friends who share the same need for MMJ and who can give you tips on how to use this treatment aid optimally and effectively.

  • Direct Purchases from Dispensaries

Not every dispensary out there offers delivery services and meetups. The best way to deal with this while minimizing your contact is to simply call the store, place your order and ask schedule a pickup time and date. This way, you will simply have to go to the store and get your items.

If all else fails, you can visit your favorite dispensary to browse their catalogs on-site. Just make sure to practice safety precautions during these pandemic times.

What to Remember When Buying Medical Cannabis

Now that you know how you can purchase cannabis products in Maryland, you might be wondering what you need to do before you take the first step in buying products. Check out these tips for buying items, which can be helpful for beginners:

  • Consider Your Condition

If you are thinking of buying medical cannabis, you probably have a qualifying condition such as cachexia, anorexia, severe or chronic pain, nausea, seizures, muscle spasms, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other chronic and debilitating medical conditions and symptoms.

So, before you place an order, make sure to consider what your condition calls for. For example, patients who have eating disorders might want to regulate their appetite, and there are infused products that contain cannabinoids that best address either overeating or undereating. Make sure to consult your physician about the type of product you should get for your condition.

  • Look at Your Options

Say, your doctor says that you need a CBD-rich product to help address your condition. Bear in mind that there are lots of CBD-infused items you can choose from. Topicals that are perfect for skin issues, aches, and pains, while orally consumable items such as tinctures, gels, and tablets are good for many other conditions.

You also have the option to smoke flowers. Just remember that these contain various cannabinoids including CBD and acceptable amounts of THC, which have a variety of effects. If you want to simulate the smoking experience, vaping is a great option for you.

Other products you may want to consider include infused chocolates, baked goods, oils, and gummies.

  • Assess the Situation

Knowing what you condition needs and your options for products, you might be contemplating about how to get the products you want. If you are a beginner and you have no idea where to start, it is best to search for dispensaries near you and get in touch with them to know if they deliver or do meetups and pickups.

Those who prefer to visit the store may benefit from the experience as budtenders are knowledgeable about their products, which means that they can help you choose the perfect product for your needs. You can also learn about the effects of consuming the plant and even some tips for consumption.

As mentioned, make sure to practice safety measures such as social or physical distancing during your visit. The state of Maryland has such rules in place and it is only smart to observe such health and safety policies. The wearing of masks may also be encouraged, so make sure to keep that in mind.

Although it has spicy undertones similar to OG Kush, Khalifa Kush has a more prominent citrus flavor and scent. It also has a high average THC content of around 26% with a 20:80 sativa-to-indica ratio. As such, newbie weed users should be careful when using this strain for the first time, as the potency can get you high from consuming a relatively small amount.

Nonetheless, weed users enjoy Khalifa Kush for its energizing yet sedating effects. That's because its sativa content is a mental stimulant, while its indica serves as a pain reliever and relaxer that doesn't make you feel lethargic.

You might find Khalifa Kush to your liking if you need a pick-me-up to help you take on the day. But, you can still take K.K. to help you calm down and concentrate better if you're feeling anxious or stressed.

2.Pineapple Express

Even people who don't use marijuana or know how to find weed in D.C. might already be familiar with Pineapple Express. Though it has been used in Europe since the early 2000s, the strain grew wildly popular in the U.S. thanks to Seth Rogen's movie in 2008, which shares the same name.

However, the film makes Pineapple Express seem more like an Indica variety, but it was developed from the Hawaiian and Trainwreck, which are both predominantly Sativa strains. Its sativa-to-indica ratio is at a more balanced 60:40, with an average range of 12-25% THC content. It has a pleasing fragrance of pineapples, mangoes, and other fruits, which also extend to its flavor.

As a sativa-heavy strain, Pineapple Express is popular among users for boosting brain function and mood. But it won't be as useful for keeping you relaxed as an indica strain. Pineapple Express is also often called a creeper because the effects take longer to finish, and most users don't feel the complete high all at once. It usually occurs progressively, starting from an energy boost and improved mood, to feeling more relaxed and creative. It's an excellent strain to try while hanging out with friends, or if you need a jolt of energy after a long day.

3.AK-47

This is a classic hybrid from the Dutch that traces its roots back to a wide variety of cannabis, namely: Mexican, Afghan, South American, and Thai. It has won several awards since its creation in the 1990s and is often considered a must-try for every cannabis user.

The strain wasn't named after a gun because it can kill you. It's because 20% THC content is still very much capable of knocking you out cold. This is despite having around a 60:40 ratio that favors sativa. AK-47 also has a strong, funky aroma that is often compared to gunpowder, though it does have some floral undertones too.

AK-47 is one of those all-around hybrids that are great for any situation. The sativa makes it an excellent choice for keeping your mind invigorated and focused yet relaxed at the same time. The high you get from this hybrid also lasts for several hours, which can be helpful if you want to have a productive work session without stressing yourself out. Meanwhile, the THC content means it can also be used to mellow you out, boost your appetite, or relieve your pain.

4.Sour Diesel

Marijuana enthusiasts who know how to find weed in D.C. should already know about Sour Diesel, one of the most popular hybrids since the '90s and an East Coast favorite . Also known as Sour D, this strain's age makes it hard to determine where it came from, but most of the main theories agree that it's either from the ChemDawg, the Northern Lights strain, or both.

The name Sour Diesel already hints at its flavor: earthy with sour lemony undertones. But its most famous attribute is its distinctive smell. As the name suggests, it does smell sharply of diesel fuel as well, with a bit of citrus that adds to the kick.

Sour Diesel has more sativa than indica, with a 90:10 ratio. Though it has low indica content, its THC count can average at around 20%. The high amount of sativa makes it ideal for stimulating your brain and providing an uplifting sensation, though the THC will make you feel a bit sleepy after the high goes away.

Many people prefer Sour Diesel to help with their stress, depression, and sleeping problems. But it's also versatile enough to be used for other purposes, like heightening your senses and focus during work.
